The Drakensberg Boys Choir School learners were joined by Francois le Roux, aka the HA!Man, on stage, where he added some ‘velvet’ to their repertoire with his cello.

As a performing artist, Francois says that most of his creativity springs from a flow of feeling, a breath (HA!) of skilful and three-dimensionally framed spontaneity.
He has a formal classical background, with cello as his main instrument, followed by keyboard playing, voice, dance, writing and visual art forms.

The main focus of the HA! Enterprise falls on uniquely unfolding performances in mostly intimate environments, interactive school concerts, workshops in spontaneous creativity and multi-artistic collaborations.
His integration of high-end technology enabled the creation of layered accompaniments, as he demonstrated by adding luscious harmonies to ‘Now we are free’, as well as glowing, warm notes to ‘I choose love’.
He also enhanced Mozart’s ‘Lacrimosa’ with some goose-bump-inducing lyrical lines, and then sent the mesmerized audience into interval with funky off-beats in ‘Feel it still’.
It was a uniquely enriching experience for the boys and audience alike. The school looks forward to another collaboration next year.
