Zandile Maduna one of the  organisers explained that this march came about as none of the local Department of Education officials have noted their pleas.

“We want equal education,” she said.

Local police, fire brigade, traffic police and emergency services convoyed behind the crowd.

There to receive their memorandum was local Department of Education, Circuit Manager, Mr VC Maharaj.  He signed and accepted it ahead of addressing the parents.

Some of the items on the memorandum were:

  • Learner transport challenges
  • Learners from the schools in the areas mentioned were not being accommodated at local high schools

The memorandum requests busses be made available to pick up and drop off learners, as the cost is too much for the parents ,which has led to learners dropping out of school

After five working days, the organising committee will receive a response from the District Department of Education office.
