The learners and staff of Drakensview Primary School recently became fully involved in two fundraising events in the community.

The learners were involved in a Cancer Association of South Africa (CanSA) Hairspray Day together with the opportunity to buy cupcakes.

The school also entered a team in the 24-hour CanSA Relay held recently. Due to the enthusiastic response from the learners, and of course the parents who supported this worthy cause, a noteworthy amount of R11 100 was raised.

On Thursday Mr Anil Sookraj, event chair of the local 24-hour CanSA Relay, visited Drakensview to hand over a Certificate of Appreciation.

The children were enthralled to hear how purple became the colour used internationally by CanSA. Staff and the Disability Awareness team from Kwazamokuhle School also visited the school to tell the learners more about living with a disability.

National Casual Day was recently held and the school raised more than R5 000 to donate to Kwazamokuhle School.

For many learners and educators it was an eye-opener to consider what it might be like to be blind or have to move about in a wheelchair. The Drakensview School community is proud to be able to support organisations that help those in need.
