Residents and business people in Centenary Road are demanding that speed humps be erected in this street. This comes after many accidents and pedestrians being knocked down within the past three months.
The speed humps in Centenary Road were removed when the municipality was resurfacing and tarring the road. Subsequently, no speed humps were put up.
“Centenary Road was a nightmare to drive on a year ago when construction was taking place,” commented one motorist.

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally says it took the municipality close to two years to fix the road. Cllr Warasally says he made numerous calls when construction was underway, as the workers were taking their own sweet time.
The road was only tarred after he complained numerous times in the wake of many calls from upset residents and motorists who had to use alternate routes to get to their homes.
This is a busy street, with many people using it to go to work and school. People now fear for their safety and the lives of others, as motorists are known to speed along this road in the absence of speed-calming devices to slow them down.
“We need speed humps in this street before we have a serious crash where lives are lost. This should be a priority to the municipality,” says an adamant Cllr Warasally.
The municipality has not commented on this matter.
