Thobile’s R500 and a dream
Thobile’s modelling journey began in 2014 when in Grade 11 at Phendukani FS School... four years and 19 beauty pageant titles later she is poised to potentially win a national title.

Local beauty, Thobile Kubeka (21) is competing to win her biggest beauty pageant title ever… it’s so close she can almost grasp it.
With her R500 entry fee and her head filled with dreams she took a chance and entered the prestigious Miss Elite South Africa Competition. After a long wait, she had almost given up hope she had been noticed until she received an email in August informing her not only had she made an impression but she would be the only contestant to represent KwaZulu-Natal out of 220 hopefuls.
Thobile’s modelling journey began in 2014 when in Grade 11 at Phendukani FS School… four years and 19 beauty pageant titles later she is poised to potentially win a national title. She believes this is because she is no stranger to hard work and perseverance.
“As a primary school learner I always tried to give my best. After school I enrolled at the National Computer College for a personal assistant course,” but during this time, Thobile made the brave decision to redo her matric to secure better marks which meant she could only complete her studies in 2018.

Even though Thobile has a loving and supportive family, she was very nervous at first to tell them about her decision to enter the beauty competition.
“I didn’t tell my family at first. I saw the entry fee was R500 so I actually thought my mom would complain, but I told myself that this was my time – my chance to achieve something great. I have to admit that if it was not for the love and support of my family, I would not have even been here,” she admitted.
The Miss Elite SA pageant offers the contestants a platform to get involved in giving back to their communities which, says Thobile, is what inspired her to enter in the first place.
“I believe modelling is about giving back to your community and being a mentor and a role model.”
Her pageant aspirations and empathy for children found her drawn to Home Meah.
She hopes to be their ambassador going forward and in so doing encourage other youngsters to get involved in the uplifting of their communities.
She has a poignant message for readers:
“You should never worry about failure; you should rather worry about the chances you miss when you do not even try.”
The pageant final will be hosted in the North West Province on March 22 and 23 next year.
