EduCentre graduates equipped to empower themselves

Educentre’s graduation ceremony for Future Coal started off today with the glorious, resonant voices of New Try Singers.

Dressed to the nines, some 30 graduates stood proudly to have their photographs taken before the ceremony began. The honorable Mayor Makhosini Nkosi was in attendance. The EduCentre’s director, Barbara Elliott, welcomed guests and graduates present.

“Embrace your new found skills to change your world,” she told the graduates.

Laughingly she said that although she had “boxed” with them she was proud of what they had accomplished.

The mayor’s speech touched on the financial state of the municipality, economic development and his desire to ensure people with the relevant skills are appointed to key positions in the municipality. He said he believed entrepreneurship would create employment.

He also offered words of guidance and advice.

“We are really trying to empower people. It’s no good you having a doctor’s degree but you sit at home because you cannot find employment.”

He thanked Elliott for working with government to empower the poor.

“Let’s make sure these graduates are the first to benefit… it does not matter where you come from but it’s about the vision you create for yourself,” he said.
