Why send your child to cubs?

Cub leader of the 3rd Newcastle Scout Group explains why it is a good idea to send your child to Cubs.

As an Akela (Cub leader) of the 3rd Newcastle Scout Group, Linda Gale is a guiding hand for her troops. She explains why sending your child to the organisation is a positive step.

Reasons for sending your child to Cubs:

  • It promotes old fashioned values.
  • It gives children structure.
  • It teaches children many important life skills.
  • Activities are community-orientated.
  • Objectives are achieved through progressive education focused on practical lessons following theoretical discussions.
  • Children attend camps a few times per year and learn to appreciate the outdoors.

The main objectives of Cubs and Scouts are to develop character, raise responsible citizens, cultivate a healthy body, mind and spirit and instill leadership qualities.

“We do a lot of work in the community such as giving care parcels to the elderly in old age homes every year and the Cubs do it all themselves.”

Recent educational sessions included a talk on dental health by Dr Aurora Els, a presentation on the river system by Bradley Gibbons, first aid classes, conservation and general healthy living.

Camps such as JOTA and the BP Camp, named in honour of the Scouts founder, Robert Baden-Powell, give the children a chance to put their skills to the test in the great outdoors
