Last-minute DIY Christmas gifts you can make

These gifts are easy to make

Here are some last-minute gifts you can make yourself, right in your own home.

* Ice-cream sundae gift box – Paint or cover a box with a lid (can be a shoe box). Fill it with sprinkles and chocolate bits neatly packed in pretty containers, ice-cream cones, fudge and chocolate sauces, wafer biscuits and cute napkins. Type out a card with the words “Just add ice cream”.

* Biscuit tube – Cover an empty Pringles tube with festive wrapping paper. Fill it to the brim with the recipient’s favourite sweets or biscuits, or stack some of your special homemade cookies inside. Replace the lid, tie a pretty bow around it and a name tag.

* Five-minute fabric scrap bookmark – Cut a strip of ribbon (40cm for a basic paperback book or 50cm for a larger hard cover). Finish off the ends of the ribbon by looping an elastic hair tie in on one end before pinning. Sew across the folded-over edges to secure. On the side that doesn’t have the elastic, sew on a button.

* Woodsy beard oil – Mix six drops of Cedar wood essential oil, two drops of Lavender essential oil, two drops of Tea Tree essential oil, one drop of Rosemary essential oil and one drop of Lime essential oil in a dark glass bottle and shake well to combine. Stick on a label with a catchy name and instructions for use: To apply, massage about 5-7 drops into the skin underneath the beard, and smooth over the hair as needed. Wrap it in a manly box.
