Five essential tips for surviving the busiest time of the year
Whether you are going away or staying home to entertain, there are various elements of the holiday season that put pressure on some.

Christmas is the busiest time of the year and can take serious strain on anyone.
In between the joyous time of family reunions, opening presents, eating and drinking, the festive season is arguably one of the most stressful times of the year.
Whether you are going away or staying home to entertain, there are various elements of the holiday season that put pressure on some.
Here are some simple ways to survive Christmas 2018:
1. Plan ahead:
Start your shopping early and make use of lists to tick things off as you get it done. This will help you keep track of what you have bought, or still need to buy, and what chores or errands need to be done. Planning is an organisational tool guaranteed to lower your stress levels, as it saves you the embarrassment of having to source food, drink or presents at the last minute.
2. Don’t embarrass yourself at the work Christmas party:
While it’s good to let your hair down after a hard year, do not do this at the expense of your professional reputation! If you know you are a lightweight, limit the amount of drinks you consume at the year-end function. Remember, come January, you will have to face your colleagues, employers or managers again, and you do not want a fresh new year to be tainted with the memories of your bad behaviour.
3. Don’t have high expectations:
Don’t stress yourself out by expecting a ‘perfect’ Christmas. Even the best planning sometimes fails, so you have to be ready to adapt. The ‘prefect’ Christmas also doesn’t mean you have to put yourself in debt for the next year. Remember the true meaning of Christmas, and focus on the most important aspect of the holiday – spending time with your loved ones.
4. Don’t try and do everything yourself:
If you are having family over, consider asking them to help out by bringing items to contribute to the meal. You will be taking some of the pressure off yourself by delegating tasks, such as salads or snacks, to family members or friends who are willing to help out. Take some time out to relax and enjoy the day.
5. Sleep Our bodies need sleep to help regenerate and energise
While it may be necessary to have the odd late night, in order to function at an optimum level you need to ensure you get enough rest this festive season!
