A whopping 457 fines were issued for traffic offences during the festive season operations held by the officers from the local Protection Service.

The common violations included driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to carry a driver’s licence and passenger overloading.

12 local traffic officers worked in two groups and concentrated on the busy streets within the central business district – Harding, Albert, Victoria and Alexandra streets.

The festive season programme started on December 13 and concluded and December 31.

Inkosi Langalibalele Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize said that foot patrols were included to increase visibility. Local traffic officers recorded one accident in the Ntabamhlophe area.
