The Drakensberg Boys Choir recently hosted two Swiss musicians, Reiner Schneider-Waterberg (baritone) and Dominic Chamot (piano), in the format of a Summer Soirée, catering for those in Champagne Valley and surrounds.
The duo performed masterpieces from the likes of Beethoven and Debussy, as well as South African and contemporary music. To end the performance, the choir then performed a few songs.
Leading up to the event, two workshops were held for the boys, where Schneider-Waterberg focused on vocal technique and baroque music, and taught the boys a Namibian folk song. Chamot conducted a workshop focusing on piano lessons, and introduced the boys to some lesser-known composers.
Prior to this event, the duo conducted a workshop at Michaelhouse (Schneider-Waterberg’s alma mater) and proceeded on to La Motte Wine Estate for another performance.
Currently, Schneider-Waterberg is a solo baritone-singer who conducts several choirs in Switzerland. He also teaches at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, a music conservatory specialising in old music, as well as singing in ‘SingerPur’, a world-renowned acapella ensemble. Chamot works as a concert pianist, playing solo concerts with symphony orchestras and accompanying other musicians.
