GPS rugby star shows brains and brawn

"I love rugby! I think it can take me far and one day I want to be on TV and make my family proud and make lots of money."

As the winter sport season draws to a close, Glencoe Primary School’s own future rugby star, Mpendulo Hleleni is hard at work.

Over the past few months, Mpendulo, along with many other young rugby players in our districts, competed in trials and hopes to be selected for the under-12 Northern KwaZulu-Natal rugby team.

Mpendulo has grown from strength to strength.

Proving himself a player for selectors to remember, he was one of the few to make the team.

Beyond proving himself on the field, he also proves himself off the field and in the classroom, and currently holds a position in the Top Ten for Grade 6 at GPS.

Mpendulo, who always has a smile on his face, says, “I love rugby! I think it can take me far and one day I want to be on TV and make my family proud, and make lots of money.”

GPS wishes him all the best and looks forward to cheering him on one day when he represents our country.

Glencoe Primary School also formally welcomes Mr Reis to its staff, who joins the senior phase team as an assistant educator.

“We wish him all the best and a happy future at our school.”
