Almost R7 000 swindled at Dundee ATM machines
Spokesman for Dundee SAPS, Captain V. Mbense urged those using ATMs to be extremely vigilant, and to not allow themselves to become distracted.

ATM fraud continues almost unabated in the Dundee area. SAPS officials say two men were recently swindled out of a cumulative amount just less than R7 000.
In one incident, a 63-year-old went to withdraw money from an ATM at the Boulevard Centre. He inserted his card and punched in his pin number into the machine, but the card got stuck and the money was not dispensed.
While on his way to the nearest branch of his bank in town, he received a SMS notification that R2 000 was just withdrawn from his account. A short while later, he received another message stating R900 had been withdrawn from an ATM on Wilson Street.
The second incident involved a 53-year-old. He had just inserted his bank card into an ATM on Victoria Street, when a man approached him. The man claimed the victim had inserted his card the wrong way. He then took the bank card and re-inserted it into the machine.
The ATM screen turned black and while waiting for the machine to reboot, the victim received an SMS notification to say R3 000 had been withdrawn from his account. Minutes later, another SMS came through stating R1 000 had been withdrawn. By this time, the swindler had vanished.
Captain V. Mbense Dundee Police spokesman, urged those using ATMs to be extremely vigilant, and to not allow themselves to become distracted while using the machines.
