Matric spellathon winner plays on KykNet TV show

Matric student, Ingrid Groenewald, recently participated in the TV show 'Op Die Spel'.

Ingrid Groenewald of Ferrum High School recently took part in the TV show ‘Op die Spel’ on Tuesday night – or more commonly known as Oppiespel.

The TV show tests contestants’ prowess of the Afrikaans language.

“Being on the show was very nerve-wracking,” describes Ingrid of her time on the show.

The game tests you on your Afrikaans language ability, from spelling to understanding idioms and an overall general knowledge of the language.

Ingrid performed really well on the show, however the one term that she had difficulty spelling was ‘verskillende sjokolademousse’e’

“I had it all right but I forgot the last apostrophe on the show.”

Since then, Ingrid has made sure that she can spell those two words.

The episode with Ingrid Groenewald will air again on Thursday at 17:30 on KykNet
