Awards evening celebrates hard work

Ilungelolethu Community Learning Centre provides courses that cover learners driver’s licence, agriculture, sewing and bead work, life skills, candle making, hospitality, plumbing and Zulu mat making.

The Ilungelolethu Community Learning Centre held an awards evening for its students and lecturers, on May 31, at the Majuba TVET College Training Centre, in Barry Hertzog Park.

Ilungelolethu Community Learning Centre Manager, Sibusiso Thabethe said the purpose of the event was to reward students and lecturers.

“Part of our policy programme is to reward and encourage past, present and future leaders. Education is the most important thing you can arm yourself with, so we need to push ourselves to the limit, but also understanding that there is no limit. We want to highlight our Centre’s achievements, as we are also accelerating skills that are needed by the Department of Education.”

Thabethe said the Centre aims to raise the bar when it comes to education. “We want to raise the student literacy level and also create employment and eliminate poverty within our communities. Such an awards function is held so as to motivate lecturers and students to continue doing good work.

“Congratulations to everyone. It wasn’t an easy selection and we appreciate everyone’s efforts.”

KZN Community Education and Training College Principal, Dr Mthethwa said he was proud of the good work done by the college.

“Tonight is a big occasion for us to congratulate and applaud all the good work that has been done. When you award, you take into consideration a lot of things. Awards go with excellence, and I am glad to see such excellence in this school. I am also happy about the leadership shown by the Centre Manager, Sibusiso; it can be noticeable throughout KZN.

“We are all created to make a difference in the world, do your best and well done to you all,” he ended.
