Ladysmith outreach programme continues to serve the community during lockdown
Hats off to all those who are reaching out to the needy with donations and sponsorships
Irfaan Bemath (Al Falah Caterers) is a name that comes to mind in times of crisis and disaster. Together with the community at large, he has now undertaken an outreach programme to assist the destitute and underprivileged in and around Ladysmith during the lockdown.
Up until now, those in need have been provided with 100 loaves of bread each day and 300 hampers consisting of essential food items every week.
This week, due to the demand being so high, the team has increased the supply of bread to 1700 loaves going out to the community every week. They have also started preparing hot food in the form of chicken breyani, which is dished into 2lt containers and handed out so everyone has a warm plate of fresh food to eat.
Irfaan says hats off to all those who are reaching out to the needy with their donations and sponsorships towards this mission. “I am grateful to each individual who has jointly assisted me in undertaking this mission. It would not be justified for me to name donors or sponsors, because merely contributing a loaf of bread makes a difference to a home and puts smiles on family members’ faces.”
Irfaan has been working closely with key role players from humanitarian organisations with regards to this outreach programme. “I am honoured to have the opportunity to head this mission through the grace of the Almighty, as we are just tools and the Almighty is the provider and the sustainer,” he says. He explains that he doesn’t run a humanitarian organisation, but is always willing to help out in times of need like the Covid-19 lockdown situation.
He would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the relevant authorities for granting them the opportunity to have hampers distributed according to government rulings and regulations, without any queues and gatherings but handed over to the homes directly.
Irfaan has a very supportive team of volunteers who have sacrificed their time to help with the project. Precautionary health measures have been taken with the volunteers while in the field. “Your donation or sponsorship, small or big, will make a difference to a family and your efforts to serve humanity will be rewarded by the Lord above. May the Almighty bless members of my family, volunteers, friends, donors and sponsors in abundance. Be safe and please stay at home during the lockdown,” concludes Irfaan.
