Total lockdown in Estcourt – ‘stay at home’ say police

“Please stay at home, no one is allowed to move around. Please comply with government legislation”

As of 9am today (April 21) Estcourt has been placed under a total lockdown. This is the official word from the local police.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Sihle Mazibuko said that a meeting was held this morning where the decision for a total lockdown was taken.

“All entries to Estcourt are closed from 9am today until the end of the lockdown (April 30). People who are found moving around unnecessarily will be charged for contravening the law. A first time offender will be fined R1 500 and a second time offender will be detained,” explained W/O Mazibuko.

He added that any person wanting to purchase essentials like groceries and medication will be allowed in town before 10am or have a permit that allows them to travel. Taxis will be allowed to operate between 5am and 10am.

“Please stay at home, no one is allowed to move around. Please comply with government legislation,” concluded W/O Mazibuko.
