Covid-19: SANTACO lends a helping hand in the fight

The main objective of the programme, which targeted taxi ranks around Ladysmith, was to flatten the curve of the pandemic

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) worked jointly with uThukela District and the Department of Health in a Covid-19 screening programme that took place at the taxi rank in Illing Road on Monday (April 27).

The main objective of the programme, which targeted taxi ranks around Ladysmith, was to flatten the curve of the pandemic by screening people and referring those with Covid-19 symptoms to the relevant health facilities.

Taxi ranks were also sanitized.

SANTACO chairperson under the uThukela District, Mr Ndawonde, briefed the stakeholders who took part in the screening programme.

“The main aim of today’s programme is to play a part in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic by giving out sanitizers and masks to the commuters in the rank when they are boarding the taxis. We also plead with the commuters to abide by the rules that were put in place by the government by making sure they wear their masks at all times. Taxi drivers should make sure that they only carry 70% passengers and their taxis must always have sanitizers,” said Mr Ndawonde.
