‘Payment system glitch’ causes delay in SASSA grants

The central business district was abuzz with beneficiaries this morning, queuing up to receive grants however due to a ‘payment system glitch’; some beneficiaries have not been able to access their grants today.

In a statement from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Sandy Godlwana, Director of Communication and Marketing says that SASSA has identified and resolved the glitch.

“The implication of this is that funds will now be released to beneficiaries’ accounts this afternoon after 3pm and can even be accessed from tomorrow (May 5) going forward. Clients using South African Post Office/SASSA cards can go to their nearest Post Office to get their grant as manual payments can be done at these outlets,” said Ms Godlwana.

SASSA has also implemented a staggering of payments.

“SASSA has created two payment files. The first one covers the Old Age Pension and Disability Grant, while the second payment file covers all other grant types (Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant and Care Dependency Grant). This means Old Age Pension and Disability Grants will be available from today (May 4). For all other grant types, money will be available from May 6 onwards,” she added.

For further enquiries affected beneficiaries are encouraged to call SASSA customer care number 033 846 3400 or 0800 601011.
