NEWCASTLE KZN: Newcastle Mayor vows to turn things around
The municipality has obtained approval electrify five areas which never had electricity before.

During a sponsored pre-State of the Town (SOTA) address at the Tramonto Boutique Hotel on March 3, Mayor Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba promised to better the livelihood of residents.
Here are some of the topics he addressed during the briefing:
Road repairs and basic necessities
The municipality has approved the construction of six new roads in Madadeni, Osizweni and Blaauwbosch.
“The municipality has obtained approval from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy to speedily electrify five areas which never had electricity before, namely Siyahlala-la, Charlestown, Ingogo, Normandien and some areas in Blaauwbosch. Most of these projects would have been completed by the end of March, but Covid-19 has caused insurmountable delays,” he said.
The issue of potholes remain a thorny issue, added Cllr Mahlaba, and it was for this reason the municipality expedited its program of resealing more than seven kilometres of roads across Newcastle.
Electricity
The municipality has obtained approval from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy to provide 285 solar power geysers in Ward 1. The project is expected to be completed before the end of April.
“Newcastle Municipality has through audacious efforts positioned itself as one of the most improved municipalities. This year, we will reinvigorate the ‘One Ward, One Project’ legacy project, as I believe service delivery must be felt in Osizweni, Blaauwbosch, Mndozo, Theku Plaza, Madadeni, and Newcastle Town – from ward 1 to ward 34!”
