ESTCOURT KZN: Global recognition for ‘enviro-school’
The school was awarded 'Special School' status, as well as winning Arts & Culture, uMsizi and uMholi awards
Phumelelani Primary in Rosedale, near Loskop, made another phenomenal mark when it won four School Environmental Education Programme (SEEP) categories at provincial level for 2020.
The school was awarded ‘Special School’ status, as well as winning Arts & Culture, uMsizi and uMholi awards. Being engaged in multiple projects made Phumelelani a remarkable school that is globally viewed as a ‘multi-skills’ institution.
Team Phumelelani works tirelessly to improve the learners and the entire school community’s lifestyle pertaining to the environment.

SEEP co-ordinator Mrs Mbele is grateful for the endless support the school receives from the Uthukela District and other stakeholders in ensuring that the journey of initiating enviro-programmes is still alive (since 2006).
She encourages other schools to join SEEP, which aims at improving educational institutions.
Working in close collaboration with a host of stakeholders, these awards are not only a product of the school but the multi-stakeholder engagement across the governmental, private and non-governmental landscape.
The school would like to dedicate these awards to the hardworking learners, educators, support staff and parents for their continued support and dedication.
“Involving schools in SEEP will make the school’s atmosphere conducive to effective teaching and learning. A healthy environment creates healthy minds. As a visionary, I believe in making a difference in promoting poverty alleviation, skills development and leaving footprints for generations to come,” said Mrs Mbele in her closing statement.
