Ladysmith KZN: Close relatives arrested for brutal murder in Burford

The Ladysmith Acting Station Commander has commended the officers who made the arrests

Police have arrested four suspects aged between 23 and 49 years old for the murder of a man in Burford on April 5. The suspects include two close family members who were staying with the murder victim.

On the night of the brutal attack (April 5), three suspects invaded a home in Burford and assaulted a young male with a hammer when he refused to allow them to speak to his father.

The suspects forced their way into the house and made their way to the room where the father was asleep.

They demanded money from the father and proceeded to viciously attack him with the hammer, as well as a bush knife and a knopkierie. They did not manage to steal any money and ran away after the attack.

The badly-injured father was rushed to hospital in a neighbour’s vehicle. However, he died on the way.

The arrested suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (April 19) for a bail application.

Ladysmith Acting Station Commander, Colonel TM Mngadi, commended the officers for the arrests. Col Mngadi was sad to learn that the suspects who allegedly committed this murder are the people who were supposed to protect the father, not harm him.
