NEWCASTLE KZN: Blood stocks dip to three day’s worth

SANBS is appealing to schools and businesses in NKZN to host blood drives.

Businesses and schools – the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) needs your help.

Shavani Sewpaul, Donor Relations Practitioner for SANBS in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, reveals blood stocks have dropped to  just three day’s worth. She explains the ideal amount of blood supply is seven days.

While NKZN did achieve 92.6% of its target for April, SANBS needs businesses and schools to host blood drives and help boost critical blood levels.

“If you are able to host a blood drive at your venue, please contact me on 082 780 3446.”

Sewpaul extends her thanks to hospitals in NKZN which hosted blood clinics in April and hailed health professionals for being South Africa’s heroes since Covid-19 first appeared.

“Hats off to all who went the extra mile and donated blood as well. What a way to lead – by doing!” she exclaimed. “Don’t wait, please donate!”
