ESTCOURT KZN: Waterless week for some residents

"Our engineers have worked around-the-clock attending to this matter over the last few days and the situation has improved"

Water interruptions and cuts have been plaguing several homes in and around Forderville since Monday (July 19).

This has caused widespread frustration among the affected residents, some of whom have not had any water supply from their taps for the past seven days.

There was also minimal information from district municipality staff on the ground and no municipal water tankers.

Thanks to the Al-Imdaad Foundation’s water tankers and communal boreholes, residents were able to gather fresh water.

The cause for the water stoppages in Forderville is pipe bursts, which uThukela District Municipality has labelled ‘numerous’ and caused the low lying reservoirs to run completely dry.

“This has compelled those reservoirs to abstract water from the main reservoir, which in the process also ran out of water. Our engineers have worked around-the-clock attending to this matter over the last few days and the situation has improved. Yesterday (July 24), we started pumping to the lower reservoir of Forderville. In the early hours of this morning, we also started pumping to the higher reservoir,” explained communication manager Jabulani Mkhonza.

He further commented that water supply is imminent.

“Most communities will have water today (July 25) around lunch. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” Mr Mkhonza added. (At 3pm, some areas were still without water)

He also referred to a pump failure at the Archie Rodel Water Treatment Works plant, where pumps were replaced and the process went smoothly.
