ESTCOURT KZN: Opportunistic criminals prey on family
The victims were bound and assaulted while the robbers ransacked their home before fleeing
Under the cloak of darkness caused by load-shedding, six heavily-armed suspects robbed, looted and inflicted a reign of terror on an elderly couple and their son on Monday night (November 8).
The attack happened at about 21:30 on a farm near Wembezi.
The victims were bound and assaulted while the vicious robbers ransacked their home before fleeing.
Warren Blaker from the local farmers’ association said that as soon as the son was able to free himself and escape, a Mayday call was made. Local farmers, police and security immediately responded to the call.
“We urge those affected by load-shedding to be extra vigilant, as it poses a major security risk,” said Mr Blaker.
He added that the investigation is at a sensitive stage and declined to reveal any further details.
Police have not provided official details yet.
