Battlefields Festival re-launched in Ladysmith

The festival presents an opportunity for industries to provide the youth with information that will help them with their career choices

Alfred Duma Local Municipality recently hosted the Battlefields Festival re-launch in partnership with other stakeholders such as the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture, uThukela Economic Development Agency and Tourism KZN. 

Mayor Zama Sibisi delivered the keynote address, saying, “Ladysmith forms part of the world-famous Battlefields Route and over the years, the Battlefields Festival has been an occasion to celebrate the importance of this tourism route and the activities involved.

“Through this re-launch, council plans to revive the fully-fledged Battlefields Festival next year, where we will have participation of the SANDF, SA Navy, SAPS and the community, especially in the gun run.”

According to the mayor, the goal of the event is to ‘bring forward social cohesion, uplift community pride, increase community participation in social events, as well as skills development and transfer’.
