Local principal rubs shoulders with president of South Africa
Xulu is also the only educator to represent the Zululand District at national level

The principal of Nkwambazi Primary School in Louwsburg had an opportunity to celebrate ‘World Teachers Day’ with the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. They were joined by other educators from different cities and towns, as well as Members of Parliament.
Nkwambazi Primary School principal Zakhele Xulu was one of the educators to rub shoulders with the parliament members because he was named the ‘best teacher’ in KwaZulu-Natal. Xulu obtained first position at district level and then proceeded to cluster level, which consisted of four districts, namely Zululand, Amajuba, King Cetshwayo and Mkhanyakude. He again obtained the number one spot, which saw him proceeding to provincial level. Another first position awaited him at provincial level and even though he didn’t make it at national level, he remains number one in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
Xulu is also the only educator to represent the Zululand District at national level. “I would like to thank God for making it possible, my mom Busisiwe Xulu, my dad Aaron Xulu, siblings, my wife Nompumelelo Xulu, my children Unamandla and Owecebo Xulu, the whole Xulu family in Hlobane, friends, the Vryheid Herald newspaper, Nkwambazi Primary School educators and everyone who contributed to my success thus far. There are many people who have shown me endless support in my journey and I thank them from deep down in my heart.”
Xulu’s success came after initiating several projects and programmes to uplift and empower communities. He recently got 16 free school uniforms from SASSA in Louwsburg to motivate learners to go to school and improve their self-esteem. He also initiated Nkwambazi Garden Club, which seeks to assist a community in Ntebe village and support a nutrition programme in schools. He is currently nominated for the Influential Men and Legends Awards 2024 that are set to take place on November 16 at Sibaya Zulu Theatre. He has also been nominated in the 2024 Batho Pele Service Excellence & Innovation Awards by the Department of Public Service & Administration.
