Load-shedding again blamed on water outage but some residents have their doubts…
Other residents say deliberate sabotage should not be ruled out

The extended load shedding hours, which sees both Dundee and Glencoe taking turns having the power their off for up to four-hour stints at a time, has again impacted hugely on the already fragile water supply.
Glencoe has again been hard hit with most parts of the town left without water. In Dundee, the higher-lying areas are again dry with the lower areas managing to receive water via gravity feed.
The load-shedding hours have impacted the water supply, pumped from the Tayside Station on the Buffalo River, the Umzinyathi District Municipality has confirmed.
A generator has been installed at the Biggarsberg water treatment plant. However, the Glencoe reservoir, adjacent to the prison, is where the problem lies for the town, say, residents, who said that previously, with the load reduction in December and load shedding, there was water.
An in-loco inspection by residents revealed that one of two pumps was running at the reservoir.
“We are not sure if two pumps should be running simultaneously but when we were on Monday morning only one was running but both were leaking badly. It is possible that poor infrastructure is to blame.”
Other residents have said deliberate sabotage should be investigated. Unconfirmed reports said ‘unidentified men had previously been seen turning off the valves that feed the town (water) and that Umzinyathi officials had to be called in to reopen the supply.
