Dundee under siege from thieves, vandals who target vital infrastructure

There has also been a surge in burglaries in the lower McKenzie Street area with residents saying televisions, gas bottles and other possessions have been stolen while they at work during the day.

Attacks on Endumeni’s infrastructure are continuing, seemingly unabated.
Dundee was left without power from last Wednesday evening to Thursday night after thieves cut down and stole 1,5km of Eskom overhead cabling that runs from below Craigside, towards Peacevale and Forrestdale.
On Saturday, a municipal power box was broken open on Ryley Street and equipment stolen which knocked out the power in the area.
Municipal electricians did manage to restore the power later in the day.
Copper pipes were ripped from a house in Craigieburn last week.
There has also been a surge in burglaries in the lower McKenzie Street area with residents saying televisions, gas bottles and other possessions have been stolen while they at work during the day.
They again blamed the overgrown property on the corner of Oldacre and McKenzie Streets as ˜hideout for so-called pharas who sleep in the bush and stash away their ill-gotten gains until these can be sold — usually for drugs.
Residents have said they are keen to step up neighbourhood patrols in the area in a bid to keep thieves at bay.
