Duduza Care Centre benefits from generous Dundee benefactors

The orphans and vulnerable children at the Marie Ratschitz Mission will have a blessed Christmas after all.

Christmas came all at once to the Marie Ratschitz Mission in Wasbank when committee members from Dundee Tourism, Talana Museum, Mpati Chemist and Dundee SAPS arrived to spread good cheer. They donated clothes, food, toys and Christmas parcels to the orphans, school and hospice.

Sister Collette and Thabo Zondi (programme manager at Duduza Care Centre) gladly received the donations.
Pam McFadden from Tourism Dundee told the excited beneficiaries that the collection for Maria Ratschitz Mission has been on-going for the past couple of weeks.

“The nuns at the mission do incredible work in the community with hundreds of orphans, the hospice and hundreds of home visits each month. Dundee Tourism started an initiative to support organisations and events that have a direct connection with tourism destinations in our region. Our thanks to all the local businesses and individuals who made a contribution to support the donation.
“Without your generosity, this project would not be possible.”

Patients from the hospice came out onto the verandah to be part of the excitement of the donations being unloaded and to listen to Sister Collette thank everyone for the invaluable support.

“We are very grateful for these donations that will go towards our orphans and vulnerable children. The community has really shown their love to us.”

The donation also included plants that will help boost the centre’s veggie garden.
Jayrushka Massallia from Dundee SAPS, accompanied by Sergeant Dladla and Warrant Officer Mvelase and their team, arrived in their own ‘sleigh’, disguised as a police vehicle.

Jayrushka Massallia from Dundee SAPS, accompanied by Sergeant Dladla and Warrant Officer Mvelase and their team, present their donation of toys to Sister Collette and Thabo Zondi of the Duduza Hospice and Care Centre.

They had brought with them toys which the children would receive at their Christmas party to be held this week. “It is just our little way of remembering those less fortunate than us. We thank the people who supported us in this project,” Jayrushka said. Glowing with happiness, Sister Collette said ‘The expression you see on the children’s faces when they unwrap their presents is something so special – it brings home what makes Christmas special’.
