Five illegal immigrants were apprehended and two suspects were arrested for drug possession over the weekend when police continued operations as part of the Safer Festive Season campaign.
A high-density, multi-disciplinary operation saw officers swooping on the Msinga District under the leadership of the Umzinyathi District commissioner, Major General Francis Slambert.

The operation involved multiple stakeholders, including the SAPS, Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), private security companies, immigration officers, environmental health experts, and Msinga Municipality Corporate Services.
The team targeted illegal firearms, drugs, liquor outlets (illegal shebeens), second-hand goods dealers, expired or unsafe food, dangerous weapons and other criminal activities that threaten community safety.

Aside from the arrests, three illegal gambling machines were confiscated and two illegal shebeens were closed.
“Integrated initiatives of this nature are crucial in maintaining public safety and fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies and external stakeholders.
“The Umzinyathi District remains committed to creating safer communities, especially during the festive season,” said police spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
