Dannhauser learners injured in early morning taxi crash

Parents and residents are calling for urgent safety measures and stricter monitoring of scholar transport. Parents and residents are calling for urgent safety measures and stricter monitoring of scholar transport.

A taxi transporting learners from Dannhauser Primary and Secondary schools was involved in an incident near Sicilians Lodge on the Steildrift road this morning, leaving the community in shock and calling for urgent action.

According to early reports, several learners sustained injuries and were transported to the Dannhauser Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical attention. The condition of those injured has not yet been confirmed.

The incident has sparked renewed concern about the safety of learners using public transport, with parents and residents calling on the relevant authorities to enforce stricter monitoring and regulation of scholar transport vehicles.

“Our children’s lives matter,” said one community leader. “We cannot continue to turn a blind eye while our learners face daily risks just getting to school. We demand accountability and immediate steps to ensure that taxis and other transport operators prioritise safety.”

Calls have been made for the Department of Education, local law enforcement and transport officials to conduct thorough investigations into the incident and introduce preventative measures to avoid future tragedies.
