Severe weather knocks out power across KZN

Eskom technicians are battling against inaccessible roads due to the heavy rain in some parts of the province.

Eskom KZN is battling widespread power outages following heavy rain, strong winds and snowfall that lashed parts of the province on Monday, June 10.

Communities from Kokstad to Ladysmith are without electricity as Eskom teams race to repair storm-damaged infrastructure.

Areas affected include:
Empangeni, Melmoth, Inkosi Mtubatuba, Ulundi, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Nongoma, Eshowe, Bergville, Ladysmith, Ingagane, Paulpietersburg, Ixopo, Kokstad, Cedarville, Franklin, Umzimkhulu, Bulwer, Lamington, Harding, Ingeli, Paddock, Edendale, and Riverdale.

Eskom says teams have been dispatched to affected zones, but many roads are flooded or snowed over, delaying access to several areas.
“We understand the frustration and thank residents for their patience as we work to restore power safely,” the utility said.

Residents are urged to stay away from fallen power lines, exposed cables, and damaged poles, and to treat all electrical equipment as live. Hazards should be reported to Eskom or local authorities immediately.
