Endumeni Councillor steps in to explain all the ‘pothole claim’ confusion

Motorists in Endumeni say they’re being misled and delayed when trying to claim for damage caused by potholes.

Motorists affected by pothole damage in the Endumeni area have experienced frustration and delays when attempting to claim from the municipality.
James McCarthy – who previously suffered R18,000 damage to his vehicle and more recently R3000 – told the Courier that he had received a form from the municipality in a bid to claim from the municipality’s insurance.

“We filled it in and, upon querying, a senior manager told us the claim had been submitted to the insurance company. This was a lie. Firstly, we were sent a blank claim form from Guardrisk, which is not even Endumeni’s Insurance company, to sign and return. No information was on that claim form.

“When we stated that we could not sign a blank form, we were told that the roads department would fill it in and sign it. When we phoned Guardrisk, they informed us that Endumeni is no longer a client of theirs. The newly appointed company will only take over on July 1.”

Asked to comment on the confusion, Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) chairperson Cllr Naresh Gopie said he was aware of the delays.
“The official responsible for processing claims has been issuing incorrect forms, leaving motorists in the dark, despite assurances that their claims are being processed.

“The DA is committed to following up to determine whether the municipality has the necessary liability insurance in place to cover these damages.
“The uncertainty and lack of transparency are unacceptable – residents deserve clear answers and accountability.
“Those affected can call me on 071 682 4584,” said Gopie.
