R4.3m grant to boost Endumeni’s recovery efforts

Endumeni receives R4.3m in disaster relief to repair flood-damaged infrastructure.

Endumeni will receive R4.3 million from the R139 million allocated to KwaZulu-Natal in disaster relief funding to KZN municipalities.
This follows widespread damage suffered in the area during the heavy summer rains when the Buffalo River came down in flood and many roads and homes were damaged.

MEC for Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi welcomed the announcement by Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa.
“The grant funding is aimed at supporting towns and districts affected by recent disasters, with emphasis on rebuilding critical infrastructure such as roads, water systems and sanitation networks,” MEC Buthelezi said.

Among the beneficiaries:
– Nquthu Local Municipality has been allocated R9.3 million;
– Umsinga Local Municipality R7,000,000;
– uMvoti Local Municipality R5,000,000.
“This funding is a vital step in restoring services and strengthening resilience in disaster-prone communities,” said Rev Buthelezi. “Oversight will be strict to ensure that every cent is spent where it is needed most.”
Several other NKZN municipalities also feature on the list, including:
– Newcastle R11 million;
– eDumbe R10 million; and

– Abaqulusi R12 million.
Residents are hopeful that the funding will translate into real change on the ground, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure remains vulnerable.
Final project details are expected to be communicated through local council briefings.
