Dannhauser launches R8m upgrade to revive Durnacol roads

Dannhauser has launched an R8m project to upgrade 2.4km of Durnacol’s deteriorating roads.

Roads in Ward 2, Durnacol, are set for a long-awaited facelift following the official sod-turning ceremony for the R8-million urban road rehabilitation and upgrade project.

The initiative, launched by Dannhauser Mayor Bongani Radebe this week, will see 2.4km of road upgraded along Cosmos, Amajuba, Drakensberg, Ridge and Protea Streets. Ward Councillor M. Kunene joined the mayor at the event.

Project aims to restore deteriorating infrastructure

Residents noted that when Iscor previously managed Durnacol, the area’s roads and infrastructure were in excellent condition. Over time, however, the network has deteriorated significantly. The new project promises safer, smoother travel for motorists.

The eight-month project is expected to be completed by July 10, 2026 and has already created eight local employment opportunities.

Owethu Lomsebenzi Trading has been appointed as the implementing contractor, while Vangisa Projects serves as the consulting engineer.

In his address, Mayor Radebe said investment in infrastructure remains central to improving service delivery and supporting community development.

“These projects are not just about roads – they are about connecting people, supporting businesses, and improving the quality of life for our residents,” he said.

He also encouraged residents to make use of the Municipality’s revenue-discount campaign and to play an active role in securing Dannhauser’s long-term sustainability.
