Community in Blue training strengthens crime fight in Umzinyathi area

Community in Blue patrollers attend Ndindindi training to strengthen crime prevention partnerships with police.

In a bid to involve residents in the ongoing fight against crime, a Community in Blue training session was held last week at Ndindindi Hall to equip community-based police patrollers with essential skills.

According to South African Police Service spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen partnerships between police and the community.

The training was facilitated by Captain Dlomo, acting Visible Policing Commander in Nquthu and an accredited field trainer. He led both the theoretical and practical components of the programme.

Approximately 130 Community in Blue patrollers from Dundee, Helpmekaar, Nondweni, Glencoe and Nquthu attended the session.

“The strong attendance reflects the commitment of Community in Blue members to actively support crime prevention initiatives within their respective areas,” said Nkwanyana.

Skills to support crime prevention

Participants received instruction in radio communication procedures, tonfa handling, handcuffing techniques and the appropriate use of pepper spray.

The focus was on improving operational readiness, discipline and professionalism, while ensuring that all duties are carried out within the framework of the law.

The district social crime co-ordinator, station co-ordinators and the District Community Policing Forum executive committee were also in attendance.

“The primary objective of the training was to equip Community in Blue members with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively support the South African Police Service in crime prevention operations,” Nkwanyana added.

Sanlam sponsored water for the event.
