“Make Endumeni safe for all again.” That was the message from officials during a multi-stakeholder enforcement sweep in Glencoe.
Multi-agency operation targets illegal trading and non-compliance
The operation focused on compliance with business licences, hawkers’ permits and illegal trading.
Key concerns included undocumented foreign nationals operating businesses and hawkers leaving litter in drains and on pavements after trading.
Fines of up to R500 were issued to traders found operating without the correct licences or selling expired food and counterfeit goods.
Officials also seized fake toilet paper from one business, while counterfeit cigarettes were confiscated during the inspections.
The operation was led by Endumeni Local Economic Development (LED) officials, working alongside uMzinyathi Environmental Health, Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Disaster Management, the South African Police Service, the Traffic Department and Home Affairs Immigration.
Officials said the aim was to protect consumers by ensuring compliance with health, safety and trading regulations.
They warned that businesses failing to meet requirements could face closure to safeguard public health.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to create a safe, fair and sustainable trading environment across the Endumeni area.
