Dundee SPCA calls meeting as leadership crisis threatens services

Dundee SPCA calls on residents to step forward as leadership shortages threaten vital animal welfare services.

The Dundee and District SPCA will hold a special general meeting on Saturday, May 23, at 09:00 at its premises as it faces a critical leadership shortage.

Community urged to step up as committee numbers fall

The organisation’s committee has been reduced to just two members, raising concerns about its ability to continue operating effectively.

National Council of SPCAs society liaison officer Marian Channon is currently assisting the local committee.

She said the meeting aims to encourage community members to step forward and take on governance roles.

“An SPCA committee must consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 members. Serving on the committee is voluntary but essential to the continued operation of the organisation,” said Channon.

Committee members are responsible for supporting daily operations, overseeing financial management, assisting with long-term planning, driving fundraising initiatives and contributing to strategic decisions.

The SPCA plays a vital role in the community, assisting a large number of animals each month.

Its inspectorate conducts routine inspections, outreach programmes and responds to cases of animal cruelty, neglect and abandonment.

Without a fully functioning committee, these services could be severely affected, leaving the community without a trusted animal welfare organisation.

Community members interested in serving on the committee are encouraged to attend the meeting.
