Saturday meeting may decide future of Dundee SPCA

The Dundee SPCA has warned Saturday’s emergency meeting could determine the organisation’s future.

The Dundee and District SPCA has described Saturday’s special general meeting as a crucial turning point that could determine the organisation’s future survival.

The meeting will take place at the SPCA premises on May 23 at 09:00 amid a severe leadership crisis that has left the committee with only two remaining members.

Community urged to save struggling SPCA

Officials say the organisation urgently needs community members to step forward and serve on the committee to prevent operations from being severely compromised.

National Council of SPCAs society liaison officer Marian Channon is currently assisting the local structure and warned that the meeting effectively represents a “last chance” to stabilise governance at the branch.

“An SPCA committee must consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 members. Serving on the committee is voluntary but essential to the continued operation of the organisation,” Channon said.

Committee members assist with governance, financial oversight, fundraising, strategic planning and support for daily operations.

The SPCA continues to play a vital role in the area, responding to cases of animal cruelty, neglect and abandonment while also carrying out inspections and outreach programmes.

Without a functioning committee, these services could face serious disruption, leaving the community without a trusted animal welfare organisation.

Residents willing to assist or serve on the committee are strongly encouraged to attend Saturday’s meeting.
