Police arrest individuals suspected to be in the country illegally

In the first raid, a fortnight ago, 8 individuals were arrested.

Estcourt police, in collaboration with community members, recently launched a campaign to raid areas where suspected undocumented immigrants are living, particularly in Forderville.

In the first raid, two weeks ago, eight individuals were arrested for being in the country illegally without proper documentation. Last Sunday morning, more people were arrested.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan has confirmed the arrests.

This initiative follows the ‘March and March until we Win’ protest, where Estcourt residents expressed dissatisfaction over the presence of undocumented foreigners in town. The march was partly prompted by a recent incident involving the discovery of unidentified pills in a packet of chips sold to a minor, allegedly by unregistered tuck shop owners who are suspected to be illegal immigrants.

Community members have called on landlords to refrain from providing accommodation to undocumented immigrants.
