Police seize drugs and firearm during search operation

Police confiscated 1730 Mandrax tablets and an unlicensed firearm after a stop-and-search operation in Madadeni.

A man was arrested on Tuesday after he was allegedly found in possession of 1730 Mandrax tablets in Madadeni.

Amajuba District SAPS spokesperson, Constable Nonjabulo Langa, said the man was apprehended during a stop-and-search operation in section 3 when the man’s vehicle was pulled over.

“Upon being pulled over, the man grabbed a bag and attempted to flee from his vehicle on foot to evade being searched,” said Constable Langa.

Police officers gave chase and apprehended him before he could dispose of the bag.

The confiscated tablets are estimated to be worth around R69,200. This prompted the police to proceed to the suspect’s residence.

At his home, police recovered an unlicensed firearm, ten 9mm live rounds, and seven live rifle rounds.

The suspect has been charged with possession of drugs, an unlicensed firearm, and illegal ammunition. He is expected to soon appear in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.

A revolver, several stacks of mandrax drugs, scattered bullet casings, and stacks of assorted money notes are displayed on a wooden table after being seized by the Madadeni Police during a stop-a-search-operation.
