Al-Imdaad delivers water in and around town

Residents and business owners are advised to look out for the foundation's water tanker in their area

Al-Imdaad Foundation members have been going around town, delivering water where it’s needed.

This comes after many areas of Estcourt – including town, Forderville, Colita, Papkuilsfontein and Esigodlweni – have had no water since yesterday (May 7).

According to a statement issued by uThukela District Municipality on Tuesday, the problem was caused by a burst pipe. uThukela commented that, “The community of Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality is informed that there is a major burst pipe on the pumping main to Richmond Road reservoir. The team attended to matters this morning but encountered challenges. The repairs will be continued tomorrow, if everything goes according to plan. Water supplies to Estcourt town, Forderville, Colita, Papkuilsfontein and Esigodlweni are affected by water shortages. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

uThukela has since updated the community that the pipe in Richmond Road has been repaired. However, concrete needed to be put in, as the pipe is on a bend. Because of that, it was necessary to wait five to 10 hours for the concrete to dry.

uThukela added that four water tankers have been deployed.

Some business owners in town said this water shortage problem badly impacts upon them, as some of the businesses need water to function.
