When one thinks of a ‘jack of all trades’ Angus Burns immediately comes to mind.

He is truly a man of many talents, having mastered almost every skill imaginable.

He has dabbled in everything from photography to astronomy, falconry, and even karate.

Who Is Angus Burns?

Angus Burns was born in Marianhill, Durban, in 1974, and was cared for by Nuns in a Monastery for a few days while his mother recovered.

He grew up as the baby of three siblings, and he was considered the odd one out, with his keen interest in all things science!

“I’ve always been drawn to nature and all its glory.  I got my first microscope when I was six, and I used to collect things in bottles just so I could study them under the microscope. Back then my role model was a famous British naturalist, Gerald Durrell who I just found fascinating and I wanted to be like him, so I asked for a pair of gumboots and would spend my days outside exploring everything I could,” he explained.

By the age of 13, Burns had decided to venture into the arts of falconry, which is the flight of birds of prey. He eventually earned an A-Grade in falconry. He also started competing in horse-back riding competitions, but stopped both hobbies because he simply didn’t have enough time on his hands.

By the age of 18, Burns had formed his first music band, Stonehenge, which quickly gained popularity among young people. They toured South Africa and had their songs played on 5FM by DJ Barney Simons.
