Men encouraged to speak out about their issues

The mayor said he wants events like this to take place every July

July, which is Men’s Month, ended on a high note with a Men’s Day programme that was organised by Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality yesterday (July 31).

All the men who work under Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality were invited to the event, which was held at the Forderville Hall. The attendees were taught and counselled on problems that men often face in life, both at home and at work.

The men were reminded that they should return to their roles as leaders and heads of households.

The event was also attended by Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, Deputy Mayor Sithabiso Dladla, CFO Mr Hadebe, MPAC chairperson Cllr Ugan Chetty, pastors, motivational speakers, psychological counsellors and male municipal councillors.

The men left the event speechless after the powerful speeches about issues that directly affect them. Among the deep topics touched upon was ‘mental issues in men’, where Mr Jabulani Cele from an organisation known as the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) spoke about stress and the negative impact it can have on a man, including high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and diabetes.

Giving the closing remarks, Mayor Myeza conveyed his gratitude on behalf of all present for being able to listen to the speeches that were very insightful. Special mention was made of motivational speaker Sicelo Mncube.

”If I were to do it myself, we wouldn’t close this Men’s Month; we would open it and all the constructive talks we heard here would motivate us in the month of July. Now we find ourselves hearing these talks when we close the month,” said the mayor.
