Danceology celebrated its 15-year anniversary over the weekend with a vibrant production entitled ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. The show drew strong support from the community and once again highlighted the studio’s depth of talent.
Strong reputation for top-quality productions
Founder and choreographer Nadine Pillay is well known for staging high-quality productions, and this year’s event lived up to that reputation. Pillay also leads the adult group, Beatnotic, which has enjoyed major competition success this season.
Success at Dance Waves Competition
“This year, we entered the Dance Waves Competition,” she said. “In August, we competed in Hilton, which was the qualifier, where we earned our place at the South African Championships and received an invitation to the Tulip Tour in the Netherlands in 2026.”
Outstanding results across categories
* Hip Hop – Gold (first place)
* Jazz – second place
* Contemporary – third place
National achievements in Sasolburg
They went on to compete at the Dance Waves South African Championships in September at the Etienne Rousseau Theatre in Sasolburg, and achieved the following success:

* Jazz – Maneater – Gold
* Overall Hip Hop Group Winner
Awaiting international selection
The group is now awaiting possible selection for the European Championships in Belgium in 2026.
Showcase spans all ages
The anniversary showcase featured dancers from ages six to 82. Several singers from local primary and high schools also performed between acts, adding extra variety and entertainment to the evening.
Golden Oldies tribute
Among the highlights was a speech by one of the ‘Golden Oldies’ group, Annie Silk, who spoke about the physical and emotional value of dancing.
Benefits of dance highlighted
“Dancing has so many positive effects on the body, both physically and mentally,” she said. “It releases endorphins that reduce stress, ease pain and lift your mood. Learning and practicing dance improves memory, focus and co-ordination. It sharpens your mind.”
Tribute to Nadine Pillay
She also paid tribute to Pillay’s impact on the dancers. “Nadine is the inspiration behind us all. You taught us more than steps. You taught us rhythm for our feet and grace for our hearts,” she said. “You saw potential where we saw awkwardness, and created space for joy and confidence. The talent on this stage tonight reflects your passion for dance.”
A milestone celebrated with applause
The evening closed with loud applause for Pillay and her dancers, marking a milestone year for one of Vryheid’s most established studios.
