Rich View Community Hall in Newcastle came alive this weekend with the rhythm, elegance and passion of ballroom and Latin American dance as Amajuba Dance Legends hosted a spectacular celebration of the town’s dance heritage.

The event served a dual purpose: to honour past dance legends who made a lasting contribution to the local arts scene, and to revive interest in ballroom and Latin dance by encouraging community participation and inspiring a new generation of dancers.

Attendees were treated to captivating performances that showcased the grace of the waltz, tango, cha-cha and samba, performed by both seasoned dancers and rising stars.

Organisers highlighted the cultural and social value of dance, noting how it keeps young people engaged, fosters discipline and strengthens community spirit.

Nonku Mhlungu-Molefe, one of the event organisers and a sponsor through Red Petals Flowers, said: “We want to revive this beautiful sport. Dance is more than just movement; it is a way to bring our community together, honour our past and give children something positive to aspire to.”

The event also received generous support from sponsors, including Thirsti Water, Boxer Madadeni, Kuyikhokonke Trading Enterprise and the Newcastle Local Municipality.

Their backing reflects a shared commitment to promoting arts and culture in the region.

For many in attendance, the Amajuba Dance Legends event was more than a show; it was a celebration of heritage, talent and community.

Organisers hope this marks the beginning of a renewed passion for ballroom and Latin American dance in Newcastle, helping to build a thriving local dance scene for years to come.
