VHS kicks off the term with a bang

The VHS sports teams showed remarkable spirit and determination throughout the holidays

The school holidays were filled with action-packed sporting events and thrilling matches for Vryheid High School (VHS) learners.
The VHS netball team embarked on a tour to George, participating in a tournament against 10 other teams. Over four days, they played several matches, showcasing their skills and determination.
The team finished fifth out of the 11 teams, with eight of their 10 girls selected to go on tour to Paris.
The boys’ first and U/16 rugby teams travelled to Port Shepstone for their tour, playing several matches against top-notch teams.
The boys’ first hockey and first girls’ hockey teams participated in the Treverton Co-Ed Hockey Festival, playing against various teams. The boys finished third overall.
Term 2 started on a high note – on Wednesday last week, VHS played sport against St Dominic’s. The results were as follows:
– Girls’ hockey U/16: 1-1
– First team: 1-1
– Chess: 9-1
– Boys’ hockey second team: 0-7
– First team: 3-3
Furthermore, VHS also played sport against Newcastle High on Saturday. The teams came back with pleasing results.
The VHS Debating Club had their first debate on Friday, with members of the SAPS invited. This initiative aims to foster critical thinking, public speaking and teamwork skills among students. The ACTS organisation also did an outreach. They entertained the senior citizens at the old age home.
The VHS sports teams showed remarkable spirit and determination throughout the holidays, and the school looks forward to more exciting matches and tournaments in the future.
