Estcourt Secondary shines at provincial coding tournament
The school encourages other learners not to shy away from technological careers.
Estcourt Secondary School’s coding and robotics team recently made their school and community proud after excelling at the prestigious Unplugged Provincial Tournament held at Pitochry Primary School in Westville, Durban.
The competition saw 61 teams from across KwaZulu-Natal testing their problem-solving, coding and logical reasoning skills on the Juicy Gems app, where learners had to complete 20 unseen and challenging levels within a set time.
The Estcourt Secondary learners displayed outstanding teamwork, resilience and creativity, securing themselves a spot in the National Tournament, scheduled for August 28.
The talented team members are Kabongwe Ndlovu, Selwandile Miya, Princess Ngxongo, Seluleko Manyoni and Lwandle Duma, who worked tirelessly to outperform many strong contenders.
Teachers and fellow learners at Estcourt Secondary have expressed immense pride in the team’s achievement. “This victory shows the dedication and potential of our learners. They are proof that with hard work and focus, rural schools can stand toe-to-toe with the best in the province,” said one proud staff member.

The upcoming nationals promise to be even more competitive, with top-performing teams from across South Africa competing for the title. The Estcourt Secondary team is already preparing for the challenge, aiming not only to represent their school, but also to fly the flag of KwaZulu-Natal high.
