Nkwambazi Primary marks Human Rights Day with community support

Nkwambazi Primary hosts Human Rights Day event promoting rights, education and community support.

Nkwambazi Primary School commemorated Human Rights Day by hosting an educational event aimed at empowering learners and parents with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.

Stakeholders unite to support the school community

The celebration brought together various stakeholders, including the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), represented by Bhekani Hlubi; Induna Simelane; Old Mutual representatives Prettygal Buthelezi and Senzekile Kunene; Sunbake representative Phakamani Mthethwa; and Sifiso Mtshali, who delivered a presentation on Substance Abuse Education (SAE).

IEC promotes voting and community participation

The IEC educated both learners and parents on the importance of voting and public participation. The organisation also acknowledged a request by Principal Zakhele Xulu to have the school registered as a voting station, which could benefit residents of Nkwambazi and KwaNtebe Village. Community members were further encouraged to register and participate in upcoming elections.

Financial literacy and household resilience highlighted

Prettygal Buthelezi from Old Mutual focused on financial literacy, encouraging parents to develop saving habits, whether with money or food, to reduce waste and improve household management. Senzekile Kunene highlighted the importance of funeral cover in ensuring dignity during times of loss and introduced Busi Mhlongo, a local Old Mutual representative serving the KwaNtebe community. Kunene also donated stationery and cups to all learners.

Support for learners and fight against hunger

Phakamani Mthethwa from Sunbake encouraged learners to understand both their rights and responsibilities. He donated 70 loaves of brown bread to support learners and help combat hunger in the area, with a promise of continued support.

Raising awareness on substance abuse

Sifiso Mtshali educated learners on the dangers of substance abuse, stressing the importance of early parental involvement and positive school engagement. He urged learners to avoid negative influences and strive to become responsible citizens.

School progress and future development initiatives

Principal Zakhele Xulu expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their involvement and support. He also acknowledged the commitment of educators, the School Governing Body (SGB), and staff members. He highlighted the school’s progress, noting that Nkwambazi Primary is equipped with computers, a school garden, and a nursery capable of producing approximately 3,500 seedlings per month, as well as an irrigation system and a reading trolley to promote literacy.
